Seminars

MEET 2012 Seminar Schedule

(Schedule Subject to Change)

Wednesday May 2nd

TIME Meeting Room ‘A’ – Moncton Coliseum Complex
10:00 am ‘Where are we now?’ – Reviewing Lighting technology both today and the near future.  A discussion on the direction Lighting Technology is taking and why.
– Derek Bussey, Cooper Lighting, Canada
11:00 am ‘Transforming an Older Facility into a High Performance Building’ – Most buildings, new or old, do not perform anywhere near their most efficient potential. HVAC systems deteriorate with time. Find out what to look for relative to improving the efficiency of the HVAC and lighting systems in a building, learn how to do it at minimum cost by taking advantage of incentives and rebates, and learn how to keep it performing at its potential to save your owner operating and utility costs.
– James Newman
1:30 pm ‘Fundamental energy issues/challenges; Status on the 'Maritime' electricity industry & provincial policies; regional wind installations and the Lower Churchill interconnection; and Tidal energy progress’
 – John Woods , V.P., EnergyDevelopment, Minas Basin Pulp & Power Co. Ltd.
2:30 pm Efficiency NB – New Commercial Building’s Core Performance Guide / Residential Energy Efficiency Program Presentation – This presentation will provide a high level overview of Efficiency NB’s Commercial Sector incentive programs before focusing on the Commercial Sector’s Core Performance Guide, Efficiency NB Edition. Specifically, the presentation will highlight the simple, discrete integrated design strategies and building features, that when applied as a package, can result in energy savings of at least 25 to 35% beyond the performance of a building that meets the requirements of the Model National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (MNECB) 1997. The Core Performance Requirements to be covered include efficiency measures such as air barrier performance; opaque envelope performance; lighting control and power density; and, mechanical systems. The Core Performance Guide strategies represent ‘state of the shelf’ technologies and practices that are broadly available in the building industry, and have been demonstrated to be cost-effective. The Guide will assist commercial property owners and developers in managing and reducing energy use through the construction of energy efficient buildings.
– This presentation will also cover the incentive programs offered by Efficiency NB for new and existing residential buildings. The presentation will cover the key points of the program eligibility guidelines and the technical requirements for heating, ventilation and domestic hot water equipment.

11:00 am ‘Mitsubishi Electric Vehicle – The EV is unique’ – It has both capabilities and characteristics to make it the ideal sustainability choice, in both commercial and residential applications.  Knowing these capabilities and characteristics and comparing them to the user's needs can determine an EV's suitability.
1:30 pm ‘Efficiency Nova Scotia’ – Efficiency Nova Scotia is a new organization responsible for developing and administering programs that help Nova Scotians reduce their energy consumption and improve their energy efficiency.  Efficiency Nova Scotia offers financial incentives, technical assistance and financing to make it easy and affordable for businesses to improve energy-efficiency.  Join Michael Archibald, Business Development Manager, to learn how these programs can help you save energy and money.
2:30 pm ‘Green Practices and ASHRAE Standards 90.1 and 62.1 – How to Have a Healthier, More Profitable Building with Better Mechanical/Electrical Design (and More Thought to the Building Envelope)’ – Learn how to surpass the ASHRAE Standards to refine and better maintain your mechanical and electrical/lighting systems. This will help conserve energy, enhance the health, well-being, and productivity of the occupants of your clients’ buildings, and save (read that “make”) money for your client, the building owner.
